At Herbs and Kettles we are definitely innovative, and love experimenting. We wanted to make a chai blend that was caffeine free, but still delicious and so after months of planning and trying multiple recipes, we created our Blue Chai. With single origin butterfly blue pea flower and chai spices this caffeine free chai is AMAZING! It's also our only chai in tea bags. Steep the tea bag for 4-5 minutes and you can have it as is or with milk and sugar.

I have to admit, I have never been drawn to spicy teas. But I decided to try Herbs & Kettles’ Blue Chai, and it has completely changed my mind. This tea is truly unique, and unimaginably delicious!
In the first whiff I could really smell the cardamom, pepper, and cloves. Instantly I was drawn back to crisp fall days in Sweden, where cardamom is a staple in many baked goods. Wonderful memories brought with them an eagerness to taste the brew. I dropped both bags (this one is not a loose tea) in to my small Rörstrand pot, and waited 3 minutes.
The brew is a murky blue, with the scent of cinnamon and ginger more pronounced. I heated a teacup, poured in the caffeine-free concoction, and took a sip. What a pleasant surprise! The Butterfly Blue Pea Flower mellowed the spices in the mouth, while the pepper and ginger warmed my chest as I swallowed. I thoroughly enjoyed the first cup “au naturel,” then decided to get creative (for me!), and try a chai latte.
Oh yea!! I am now hooked. Brewed strong then added to warm, whipped milk with a touch of honey, this tea is just divine. I can definitely see enjoying this on crisp summer evenings and cold winter days, and certainly for “Fika” with cardamom buns. I highly recommend the Blue Chai for both chai connoiseurs and “beginners” like me!
My wife loved the samples. Just wished the Chai instructions included a measurement. Used the latte measurement to get into the ball park. Will buy what she loves again.
